Gagan holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at New York Medical College. She completed her BSc in Biochemistry and her MSc in Biotechnology.
She is currently working on two projects. The first is focused on the identification of intracellular targets and mode of action studies for compounds active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis selected through high-throughput screening. Her second project is working to elucidate the mechanism of secretion and regulation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis PtpA, a protein tyrosine phosphatase involved in the pathogenicity of the bacteria, but using biochemical, genetic and microbiology tools.
