Xingji is in the process of completing his PhD in Experimental Medicine at UBC. His MSc was in the same field, and his BSc was in Biochemistry, also from UBC.
Xingji’s doctoral work has been focused upon the development and testing of a new high-throughput intracellular screening technique for new drugs against tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is caused mainly by an intracellular infection, however, drug discovery in the past has chosen to ignore the actual pathology of the disease. Therefore, it is highly advantageous to start the drug discovery process with an intracellular screen. Multiple screening projects have been conducted in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies and academic labs to showcase the benefits of this method.
